Who am I?
I am an English teacher at Wayne Early/Middle College High School, a new high school located in Goldsboro, North Carolina. I teach English I Honors and English IV Honors in addition to courses for Wayne Community College (ENG 111, 114, 231, and 232). This is my second year at WEMCHS, and I love working here! My current professional interests include blogging, podcasting, and game creation in the secondary English classroom as well as online instruction techniques and curriculum development. I have plans of pursuing a PhD in English Education… one day.
What is my background?
I have over nine years of experience teaching high school and community college English. Before coming to Wayne County, I worked at Kinston High School and Lenoir Community College. I am a National Board Certified teacher, and I completed both the BS and MAEd degrees in English Education from East Carolina University, where I was a North Carolina Teaching Fellow. Though I am originally from east Texas, I grew up in Jacksonville, NC, graduating as valedictorian from Southwest High School in 1995.
What else?
I love orange cats. The cat you see in the picture above is Tangie-Cat, who was a gift from one of my students about six years ago. Tangie is definitely my #1 buddy! I am also a big fan of Diet Pepsi, chocolate, scary movies, snow-skiing, and boating. I can’t dance or play sports very well, but I have hopes of one day running a marathon. Right now, my wonderful boyfriend, Pete, is teaching me how to throw and catch a football. Pete is in the Air Force, currently deployed to the Middle East, and I miss him so much.
